Carnival!

Carnival is a huge Ecuadorian holiday. It started last Friday and the last day was Tuesday. It is basically parties, costumes, music, WATERFIGHTS, and crazy all month long. People ride around in the back of trucks with water balloons and buckets of water to throw at people walking along the street. Especially poor North American girls. We have been attacked with water since the middle of January and still running. Even though Carnival is technically only four days. The people here love it. During the OFFICIAL Carnival days we had waterfights at the orphanages everyday. It was so fun. Even the workers joined in. And at Tadeo Torres the nuns came out to play. It was so weird to see them getting attacked with the Carnival Spray and Water just like everyone else. A girl named Andrea that is in the process of getting adopted came back to play on Friday with her family. It was so fun to have her back. She has such a special personality. Her parents and her brother also joined in the festivities to play. So basically we had a FOUR hour water fight.
The kids all joined in the water throwing and so did some of the workers. One care taker named Blanca was getting everyone wet. Including me. So my competitive nature of course immediately appeared and I chased her into a bathroom and threw water over a stall to get her wet. I also had a couple of Hermanas and workers help me corner her in the back laundry room to dump a bucket of water on her. It was so fun to see everyone so happy and relaxed.
Some other carnival randoms include;
{Getting water balloons thrown at us while walking down the street and some receiving welts.
{Kenzi having her head out the window listening to her Ipod with her eyes closed and having a huge bucket of water dumped on her head by someone on the street as we drove by.
{On my off throwing water balloons from the balcony at the roomies when they come in from shift.
{Seeing all the strange festivities in town (Including people riding in a carriage dressed as a queen and king maybe?
{Carnival should happen in EVERY COUNTRY! It is so fun! Even if one is soaking wet for most of the day!
